Storms Don’t Wait for Night

This morning, I was sitting in the kitchen with my babies when we heard a low rumble. Slight, but heavy.
I looked up and asked, “What’s that?”
They shrugged, “We don’t know.”
I paused, listened again, and said, “Oh, it’s raining. That must be thunder.”

Then my daughter looked at me with her sweet little puzzled face and said,
“But it’s not nighttime.”

Whew. That stopped me.
I smiled and said,
“Baby, a storm doesn’t have to wait until it’s dark. It can show up in the middle of the day too.”

And just like that, GOD dropped a word in my spirit.

The Power of Good Soil

Life has a way of planting us in places we don’t expect. And sometimes, just when things start to feel sunny, the storm clouds roll in—outta nowhere. Like thunder in the middle of breakfast. But it’s in those sudden shifts that we learn to trust the One who controls the weather, not the time of day.

The soil doesn’t decide the storm.
The storm doesn’t ask for permission.
But the one who planted you already knew the forecast.

The Right Location Matters

Some of us were told storms only come at night. Only during hard times. Only when things look bad. But life has taught me storms can hit in the middle of your peace, your progress, and even your purpose.

Thunder can roll when you're in the middle of healing.
Rain can pour when you're finally catching your breath.
And just like my daughter, we may be confused—“Why now, GOD? It was finally sunny.”

But GOD doesn’t operate on our clock. He operates on His covenant. And whether the sky is dark or bright, His promises still stand.

Knowing When to Move

Storms remind us that timing doesn’t belong to us. That even in the light of day, we still need shelter. Still need faith. Still need to be anchored. Sometimes we move too quickly out of places GOD told us to stand in. Other times, we sit too long in places He told us to leave.

But if you pay attention to the thunder—the warning—the shift—you’ll know when it’s time to listen, time to move, and time to rest.

Flourishing in the Right Place

That moment in the kitchen wasn’t just about weather. It was about perspective.
Because just like that storm rolled in unannounced, so can GOD’s glory.

Deliverance doesn’t wait for midnight.
Breakthrough doesn’t need a warning.
Peace can show up in the pouring rain.

You just have to be open. Ready. Listening.
Because storms don’t wait for night. And neither does GOD.

Scripture for the Journey
"He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous."
—Matthew 5:45 (NIV)

Reflection Question
Have you been waiting for “nighttime” to prepare for your storm? Or are you anchored in faith, ready no matter the hour?
