The Day the Enemy Tried to Take Me Out
There are moments in life you never forget. The kind of moments where time slows down, the air feels heavy, and you know deep down that you just survived something that could have ended your life.
For me, that moment happened back in college. I was young, caught up in a relationship that wasn’t the best for me—arguments, emotional abuse, cheating, and all the chaos that comes with a toxic connection. He was also a drug dealer. That meant there were drugs in the house, late-night runs, and situations I had no business being in. Sometimes I knew what I was walking into, sometimes I didn’t.
One day, we drove to pick up drugs and a gun. I sat in the car with the weapon as he ran into the store. That’s when something unexplainable happened—this calm but alarming stillness came over me. It was as if the world stopped, the wind itself was speaking, and my spirit whispered, Pay attention. This could be it.
We made it back to our apartment, and that’s when it happened. He asked me to hold the gun. I told him no—what if it went off? He laughed, said it wasn’t loaded, and he pointed it toward the wall by my head and pulled the trigger.
The gun fired.
The bullet flew past me, so close that when I dropped to the ground and looked up, there was a hole in the wall—right beside my eye. An inch difference, and I wouldn’t be here to tell this story.
In that moment, I knew the enemy wanted to take me out. But GOD had other plans.
We rushed out of the apartment, panicked, worried the neighbors would call the police after hearing the shot. But even in that chaos, I couldn’t stop thinking: I should be dead. But I’m not.
When the Enemy Plots, GOD Protects
The Bible says in John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
That day, the enemy tried to steal my future. He tried to end my story before it even began. But GOD stepped in. GOD’s hand was over me when that bullet flew past my face. GOD’s protection surrounded me even when I was living outside of His will.
And that’s the part that humbles me the most—He saved me anyway. Even when I wasn’t making the right choices. Even when I was walking in the wrong direction. Even when I was connected to someone who was dangerous for my destiny.
Your Story Isn’t Over
If you’re reading this, maybe you’ve had your own “close call.” A car accident you walked away from. A diagnosis that should’ve taken you out. A heartbreak that could’ve broken your spirit beyond repair.
But you’re still here.
That’s not by accident—it’s purpose. The enemy’s plan didn’t work because GOD’s plan is bigger. The bullet missed you. The car didn’t crush you. The heartbreak didn’t destroy you. The addiction didn’t define you.
You survived. And surviving means there’s more for you to do.
Walking Forward in Faith
Every time I think back to that bullet hole, I don’t see death—I see life. I see a GOD who covered me when I didn’t even know how to cover myself. I see a future that the enemy tried to block, but GOD said no.
So I walk forward in faith, knowing that if GOD saved me then, He’s still saving me now. And He’s doing the same for you.
The enemy wanted to take you out a long time ago. But you survived. And that means your story is still being written.
✨ Reflection: What’s a moment in your life when you knew without a doubt that GOD stepped in and protected you? Take time today to thank Him for keeping you when the enemy tried to destroy you.
