This Is Your Sign

The other day, I was in the store—nothing special, just a quick stop like always. I stood in line, ready to check out, when the cashier told us there’d be a short wait while they switched shifts. Three minutes. That’s all it was. But it was just enough time for GOD to remind me of something I’d been missing.

Normally, I’d be on my phone, replying to messages or scrolling to fill the space. But this time, I actually looked up. Looked around. And that’s when I noticed a sign I had never seen before—right there in front of the register. It said the lane was reserved for the elderly, pregnant women, and those with disabilities.

What’s Always Been There

I’ve been to that store at least two or three times a week for the past three months, and somehow, I never noticed it. Same line. Same checkout. Same me—just distracted. But standing still for those few minutes opened my eyes.

It made me think: how many signs has GOD placed right in front of me that I completely missed because I was too busy moving, scrolling, planning, or rushing to the next thing?

Sometimes, GOD will slow you down—not to frustrate you, but to focus you. To get you to stop long enough to see what’s been there the whole time.

I didn’t need that checkout sign in particular, but I needed the reminder that came with it—to be present. To notice what’s happening around me. To stop letting distractions drown out the messages GOD is trying to send.

We say we’re waiting on a word or praying for direction, but sometimes GOD already gave it. We just weren’t paying attention.

So maybe this is your reminder too—this is your sign. Don’t be so busy praying for a sign that you miss the one right in front of you.

Scripture:

"Be still, and know that I am GOD." — Psalm 46:10

Reflection:

How often does GOD speak while we’re too distracted to listen? Slow down. Look around. You might realize the answer you’ve been searching for has been sitting quietly in your line of sight the whole time.
